About

La Magia presents a unique South American experience that is rooted in the Afro-Uruguayan culture called Candombe.

La Magia brings forth a music and dance presentation that fuses the roots of Southern Afro-Latin with other components of Latin-America and world music, as well as, global elements such as Jazz, Blues, Soul, Funk and Rock.

The heritage of the group dates back to the mid seventies when the roots of the Afro-Uruguyan Candombe culture were established in Canada by it's pioneers Sixto Barboza and Henry Hackenbruch.

Sergio Barboza La Magias director is the son of Sixto and Irma Barboza and has taken on the responsibility to carry on spearheading the growth of the culture and music of Candombe. He's has put together an ensemble of multicultural creative people the are always at work in the development of Candombe not only locally but also abroad.

Rhythmic, Colourful, Vibrant, Energetic and Enigmatic. That is… Candombe!
